Reminding everyone that we have our Annual Meeting and Election of Directors this coming Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 9:30 am at the clubhouse. Here are the four candidates for election. The first two are incumbents; the last two are newcomers.
Bill Spencer
Dot Spencer and I bought our home on Royal Way in 2006. We were weekenders until 2014 when we chose to make this our retirement home. We were active in the creation of the Sanitary District, and I have been on the Association Board since some time in 2017(?), as the Director for Facilities. My final career goal is to build a cadre of volunteers who can continue to improve, sustain, and maintain control of the recreational assets so together we will continue to make GHCP A Great Place to Live!
Jack O’Neil
I am Jack O’Neil and have been a property owner in Cabin Point for over 34 years. Commuting on weekends from Northern Virginia for the first 15 years and becoming a full-time resident in 2005.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts into an Army family and traveled the world. Grew up in Massachusetts, Japan, California and Asmara, Eritrea, East Africa.
Received my undergraduate degree from The University of Nebraska and a master’s degree from University Southern California (USC) in Information Technology.
I retired from the military (ARMY) in 1982 after serving 20 years and worked in Northern Virginia for High Technology companies, retiring for the second time from BAE Systems in 2005.
I have always been active in community activities, serving on Church Boards and on the Prince William County Planning Commission as well teaching Information Systems at Northern Virginia Community College when we lived in Northern Virginia.
Since moving to Cabin Point full-time, I have been active on the Westmoreland County Board of Zoning Appeals, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), and assisting Veterans in applying for Veterans Benefits to the Veterans Administration (VA).
I am married to Glenda and we have four married children as well as 12 grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.
Carlita L. Coley
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in private practice and have been providing mental health services to women and children for 15 years. Five years ago, I moved into Cabin Point as an empty nester, and have 3 adult children who visit from 3 different states on occasion. When I am not working (or napping), I spend my empty nesting time writing and rescuing cats – I’m a published author of a few therapy journals and a psycho-education memoir, and director of a nonprofit rescue sanctuary for abandoned and unwanted cats and kittens. I would like to offer my supportive services and unique perspective to enhance the community’s growing landscape.
Connie Sirbaugh
I just moved to Cabin Point this past February and have been doing quite a bit of landscaping around the house this past month and enjoying the friendly community.
I was born and raised in Maryland. Joined the Air Force out of high school, moved around a bit, married, and raised three children, all of whom are married themselves and have blessed me with four grandchildren that I can spoil rotten every chance I get.
I have had many management positions over the course of my career in the newspaper industry and as a project manager with the government.
For the treasurer position, my years of related experience include the following:
- Three seasons working for H&R Block preparing income tax returns, which I love.
- Continued to prepare personal and business tax returns for 27 years.
- Owned a small business bookkeeping and tax company for 16 years, and only closed the business 2 years ago.
- 14 years managing circulations departments for three paid newspapers and two free publications.
- Currently a project manager for Patuxent River Naval Base in Maryland and plan to retire in early 2026 after 18 years.
It is because I love the bookkeeping and tax stuff, that I decided to apply for the vacant treasurer position on the board of GHCP.
