Temporary Suspension of Happy Hour Gatherings

Given the significant increase in Covid-19 cases locally, and out of an abundance of caution, the GHCP Board has decided to temporarily suspend Happy Hour Gatherings at the Clubhouse, effective Tuesday, January 4.  The suspension will remain in effect until we have more clarity on the impact of the Omicron variant in the local community.  We will continue to maintain access to the Clubhouse for business purposes, small groups, and individual activities.
This week’s Virginia Department of Health update on Covid-19 shows a significant increase in the positivity rate from testing for Covid-19, largely driven by the highly transmissible Omicron variant.  The update noted that “the Omicron variant is as transmissible as measles, which is the most highly contagious pathogen known.”  The positivity rate for Westmoreland County is now at 26.9%–a very significant increase from the previous data.   There is also on-going speculation in the news and among public health officials that holiday visits among family and friends may well be reflected in new data about infections and spread of Covid-19 over the next couple of weeks.  While Omicron cases seem to be milder than other variants, particularly for people who have been vaccinated and had the booster shot, the sheer number of new infections is cause for concern, especially for those in our community who may be at a higher risk for the disease.
We continue to urge members of the community to be vigilant in following the known successful mitigation strategies — wearing masks, getting vaccinated and boosted, and avoiding larger gatherings, particularly indoor gatherings–to help control the spread of Covid-19.  If you have any questions about the temporary suspension, please contact the Clubhouse office at 804-472-3646 or ghcpassoc@gmail.com.  Thank you.
