Cabin Point Beach Closed

Severe erosion over the past several days has increased the risk of driving and parking on the cul-de-sac at the east end of Royal Way at the entrance to Cabin Point Beach. In response to separate requests from the County Administrator and the GHCP Association President regarding the potential safety risks, VDOT closed off vehicular traffic on the cul-de-sac to reduce the risk to public safety. Out of an abundance of caution, the Association is closing access to Cabin Point Beach until VDOT repairs can be made and until it can be determined that member access to the beach is safe.  Over the past weekend, the wind and wave action further eroded the area around the access point to the beach and destroyed the temporary steps installed over the past year. There is no safe way to get down to the beach or back up on the walkway.  Once VDOT has done their repairs, we will work with the County to restore beach access. (Posted 11.19.19)
