The Authors, Artists, and Artisans Series will continue in February. Our thanks to Jamie Bennett who was our January guest. Multitalented, yet self-deprecating and humorous, she kept all of us interested and sometimes in stitches with her life journey. Here’s what’s planned for February.
When: Saturday, February 17th, at 2pm
Where: GHCPA Clubhouse
Guest: Author Sida Lei. Her memoir, Two Teaspoons of Rice – The Memoir of a Cambodian Orphan, describes her experience in a Khmer Rouge labor camp.
Sida was born in Cambodia in 1965. She survived as an orphan during the 1975-1979 Khmer Rouge holocaust and led her four siblings in a daring escape to Thailand in 1979, where they lived in refugee camps for two years. Sida and her siblings were granted visas, sponsored by Saint Margaret Mary Church in Rochester, New York. She attended college and graduated with a degree in Medical Technology, wanting a profession where she could give back and save lives. She works as a clinical microbiologist for the Inova Health System in Virginia. Recently, she and her family purchased a weekend home in Cabin Point.
Light refreshments will be served. Please come and hear Sida’s unforgettable story of struggle, courage, and hope.
