Notice on Public Hearing and Proposed Increase in RUF

The Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors (BOS) met on May 16, 2022 in a Work Session to review the proposed Westmoreland County Budget for Fiscal Year 2022-2023, including the Glebe Harbor-Cabin Point Sanitary District (GH-CP SD) budget and the Recreational User Fee (RUF).  The BOS is proposing an increase in the RUF for next fiscal year from $200/lot to $215/lot.  The rate of inflation for the GH-CP Sanitary District has risen 15.1% over the past four years.  The proposed increase in the RUF will off-set some of the costs associated with rising inflation.  At this point, the budget for FY 2022-2023 and the RUF are proposals only and have not been approved by the Board of Supervisors.   The final tax rates for FY 2022-2023, including the RUF, will be set by the Board of Supervisors when the final County budget is adopted.

A public hearing will be held by the Board of Supervisors on the County’s FY 2022-2023 proposed budget in the George D. English Building Board Room, 111 Polk Street, Montross, Virginia on Wednesday, June 01, 2022 at 6:00 p.m.  The meeting will also be accessible to the public via live stream on social media.  Instructions on how to access the live stream video will be available on the Westmoreland County government website:  www.westmoreland-county.org.  Once the public hearing is held, the BOS then must wait seven days before adopting the budget and setting the tax rates.  The BOS cannot increase the rates once they are advertised, but only lower them.

The County will be publishing a notice of the public hearing in the Westmoreland News on May 25.  The notice advertises all the tax rate changes being proposed and provides instructions on submitting comments for consideration by the BOS.  If you wish to provide comments in support of the increase in the RUF or in opposition to the increase, comments may be submitted via electronic mail: publiccomment.bos@westmoreland-county.org.  Comments may also be submitted by fax: (804) 493-0134 or by mail to:  Norm Risavi, County Administrator, P. O. Box 1000, Montross, VA 22520. All comments must be received by 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.
