Jim Amery is the kind of guy who, once a problem gets his attention, will keep at it until it is done. A few years ago, the poor condition of the portico at the front of the clubhouse got his attention. He caulked all the joints between the narrow beadboard strips on the ceiling, installed new overhead lights, and painted the ceiling, columns, and trim. Next, he took on the exterior of the clubhouse facing the pool. He installed water resistant (Azec) baseboard to cover up water damage in the plywood siding, replaced trim and sills as needed, and, with some helpers, painted the entire façade. Other volunteers pitched in, but Jim’s leadership and persistence were the drivers for getting the job done.
Dot Spencer has over a decade of contribution in roles varying from a board member and Secretary of the Cabin Point Civic Association, to a key member of the GHCP Association Communication, Clubhouse Renovation, and Community Resource committees. She was our Pool Coordinator 2020-23 where she created and documented most of the rules and procedures (such as check-in) that we rely on today. And she took a leading role in figuring out how we could keep the pool open during Covid safely and within State and County guidelines. More recently, she organized and led a sewing group that made blankets and quilts for the Sheriff’s Office, as well as several exercise groups, including an on-going chair yoga group. Next month her 5A (Authors, Artists, Artisans, Athletes and Adventurers) seminar series will kick off its third season. We can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
So, with our sincere appreciation, Dot and Jim are hereby awarded the GH-CP Tip of the Hat award for their roles in helping keep Glebe Harbor-Cabin Point a “Great Place to Live. Thank you both!
