Neighborhood Watch

Our volunteer drivers (and the neighbors who chat with them) report increasing concern over construction equipment parked in vacant lots.  This topic is quite the can of worms.  Is this allowed?  And by whom?  The Association?  The Sanitary District?  The County?  The same questions apply to who may own the lot being parked on.  Is the owner of the vehicle also the owner of the lot?

Arguments against these instances of potential misuse are best directed to the County Land Use Office, and are more effective when lodged by a property owner of an adjacent or adjoining lot.  Being armed with the facts surrounding equipment and property ownership is vital.  One neighbor’s eyesore may be another’s way of making a living.  And if a true infraction is present, enforcement methods can be challenging.

The best course of action for a concerned property owner is to visit the Land Use Office in person and ask what, if anything, can be done.  Doing some homework in advance will be useful.
