In November 2024, our Association introduced what we hoped would become a periodic tradition: a moment to pause and recognize a few of the remarkable volunteers whose quiet, consistent, and meaningful contributions strengthen the fabric of our community. We call them our “under-sung heroes,” and the Tip of the Hat Award was created as a small gesture of appreciation for those who continually show up, give generously, and make GHCP a better place for all of us.

Today, we are proud to award the Tip of the Hat to Alicia Vosburgh.

Her contributions include:

• Chair of the Playground Committee, we can’t wait until you see what is planned here!
• Active volunteer with the Pool Operations Committee, including the recent carnival and the Back-to-School supply handouts at the Association’s cookout- among many other things!
• Creator and leader of the “Once Upon a Craft” program, a partnership with GHCPA Member Services that has become one of GHCP’s most beloved recurring activities for young children and families.

The very first Once Upon a Craft was held on August 30, 2025, featuring The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Alicia brought the story to life with all the snacks the caterpillar eats on its journey to becoming a butterfly and the children made hungry caterpillars of their own to take home. That inaugural event set the tone for everything that followed: thoughtful, imaginative, welcoming, and designed to make every child feel included.

Since then, Alicia has continued to expand the program with themed crafts and activities. Children decorated cookies with Santa and his elves after The Night Before Christmas, and during that visit they helped decorate a tree in our rotunda with their handmade crafts. They have made Valentine’s decorations with heart suncatchers during a movie night complete with popcorn, enjoyed visits with the Easter Bunny, joined chalk parties on the basketball court, and so much more. These are the kinds of moments that make a neighborhood feel like a community; you can even catch some of the children’s work in our lounge.

Alicia has shared“… I’m grateful I’ve had this much support so far. For all kids that don’t have friends—that’s most important to me. In a small town like this, I think these sorts of things are important. For the moms and dads too! Maybe they might make friends too! It takes a village, and whether they know it or not, they are creating their own.”

Her words reflect exactly why her work matters. Alicia’s dedication reflects exactly why the Tip of the Hat Award exists. She is not simply organizing activities—she is building community. She is creating spaces where children feel included, where parents feel supported, and where neighbors become friends. Her leadership, creativity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to GHCP continue to shape the village we all want to live in.
