Sewer Line Break 10-8-26

October 9, 2026

Yesterday morning, October 8, the County sewer monitoring system identified a loss of flow in the sewer lines along Cabin Point Drive, east of Royal Way, and the field crew was dispatched to identify the initial leak location and assess the damage.  Upon arrival, a resident assisted the crew in identifying the initial leak location.  Crews then tracked the sewer leak overflow along the ditch line on Cabin Point Drive and mapped where the overflow discharge migrated out into Cabin Point Creek.  Crews responded and repaired the sewer line, as well as cleaning and treating the affected land areas in accordance with proper protocols.  Those repairs are now complete.

A report of the incident was promptly sent by the County to the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) as well as Department of Public Health in Richmond.    County officials have been in close communication with State regulatory and public health officials throughout the day.  We are currently awaiting guidance from DEQ and public health officials with respect to any additional recommendations or guidance we can give the community.

Until that time, you are advised to keep pets out of the immediate area affected.  If you have concerns, you may wish to refrain from swimming, fishing, or crabbing in the creek out of an abundance of caution.  As under any circumstance, individuals should properly clean, prepare, and cook fish, crabs, or shellfish prior to consumption.

Any additional recommendations will be available on our website once we receive them.
