Community Tapestry Series

On Sunday, October 25, Part One of our end-of-life planning seminar featured guest speakers Ana Rubio, director and embalmer of Welch Funeral Home Marks Chapel, and Pastor Steve Taylor of Nomini Baptist Church.  Ana presented a lively and informative discussion of pre-need arrangements, including insurance (how it works and what it covers), specific options (burial, cremation, donations to science, and green burials), and family cemeteries.

While Ana focused on mortuary logistics, Pastor Steve opened with a spiritual perspective on how to make the inevitable easier to come to terms with. His gentle advice included living in the moment with gratitude and grace, accepting what is, and taking care of “unfinished business,” especially in relationships.  He also discussed various formats and options for the actual funeral ceremony.

Special thanks to Diane Lank and Rae Chamberlain for initiating and organizing this very important public service.

Part Two of our seminar will take place on November 15, 2026, and will feature Diane Lank, whose expertise includes estate planning.  She will give detailed explanations of the essential legal documents: wills, powers of attorney, and advance medical directives, as well as methods to organize accounts, passwords, and important papers for your family.
