This month’s guest was Debbie Bird, who gave us an orientation and history on the art of spinning yarn. She brought several samples of wool and hair from various sheep, alpaca, and Angora rabbits that we could touch, and presented two very different spinning wheels. After demonstrating how to feed the fibers (in this case, cotton) into the wheel, she gave some of us a chance to try it out for ourselves. It’s not nearly as easy as she made it look!
April’s speaker will be Steve Merritt. Steve will give a presentation on shipwrecks of the Chesapeake Bay and surrounding area of Virginia. He will focus on several significant shipwrecks including the Coast Guard Cutter Cuyahoga, wrecks in the lower Chesapeake Bay, and Virginia ships sunk during WWII. He will share a PowerPoint presentation, along with artifacts and historical photos from a diving perspective of the 80’s and 90’s.
