New Beach Grass Plantings on CP Beach

Fall may be here but it’s not too late to undertake planting projects for next year!  On Friday, 10/3/25, a shipment of young beach grass plugs will be planted at the south end of the main Cabin Point Beach.  These grasses were suggested by the contractor who completed the stone breakwaters along the beach.  That end of the beach is subject to winds that can pick up the sand, carry it airborne, and blow it over the beach, depositing it into the Cabin Point Creek inlet channel.  By adding vegetation in that area, we expect the grasses will aid in catching sand before it has a chance to become fully airborne, mitigating the amount of sand that is blown away.  The new grass plugs are quite fragile and we urge you not to walk in the area from the 8th breakwater out to the inlet channel.  The shoreline perimeter of the planting area is marked with stakes.  With good weather, sunshine, and rain this fall, we will have a crop of new young grasses ready to spring forth next year.
