October 5A Series

The 5A Series kicked off its season with former resident Milton Ford Wright, author of “Least Likely to Succeed,” as our guest, as well as his three grown children. Milton grew up in Glebe Harbor before it was Glebe Harbor. He graduated from A.T. Johnson High School in the early 60’s, where he was given the moniker “Least Likely to Succeed” – but he proved just the opposite! He described his early years on the Neck, his military time, and later making his way as a black man as the Civil Rights Era was just beginning to unfold. The audience sat spellbound as he described numerous challenges due to discrimination that he faced and overcame.

The Series will continue on Sunday, October 12th, welcoming resident Barbara Angus as our guest. Barbara will introduce us to rug hooking, an Early American art form that originated in the North American colonies in the mid-1800s, utilizing recycled materials like burlap and fabric scraps to create functional and artistic floor coverings.

Come enjoy learning about the craft as Barbara demonstrates. Refreshments will be served.
