Tip of the Hat Awards January 2025

In November, we began what will become a periodic opportunity to acknowledge a few of the very special volunteers who have established a noteworthy history of contributions to our community. Our Association frequently sends out requests for volunteers to support our community and the many events we try to make happen. But while we try to acknowledge those who do contribute, we’d really like to recognize and let you know more about some of our volunteer “undersung heroes.”  We let the holiday distractions slow the process, so this time we want to catch up a bit by offering our thanks to two very special people.

Tommy Long

Few residents of GHCP have been a part of our community for as long as Tommy Long and it would likely be a futile effort to find others who have contributed more to making GHCP a “Great Place to Live” over the years. His family bought a home in Glebe Harbor some 40 years ago, and Tommy and Paula became full time residents about 7 years ago.

As the unofficial Mayor of Glebe Harbor, Tommy keeps a close eye on the clubhouse and the greater community. Just a few years ago he sponsored and organized an awesome Classic Car Show at the clubhouse complete with entertainment, food, and prizes.  In addition, he took the lead and organized the repainting of the game room.  He took charge of the painting as well as the new floor installation in the clubhouse lounge last year.  He organized the first of our Halloween Trunk or Treat events and his sponsorship has made every year bigger and better. He is a perennial supporter of the pool cleanup and the continuing effort required to keep it running though the season.  Involved in numerous other community activities, Tommy always makes time to help others and contribute to whatever project needs his help.

So, with our sincere appreciation, Tommy Long has certainly earned and is hereby awarded the GH-CP Tip of the Hat award for his role in helping keep Glebe Harbor-Cabin Point a “Great Place to Live.”  Thank you, Tommy!

Debbie Dunn

Life changed in many ways when the GHCP Sanitary District was established in 2016. The day before, we knew who our “members” were; under the voluntary association, they were the ones who paid their dues to the association. But under the Sanitary District, all property owners who paid their recreational user fees to the County were entitled to use the pool and other facilities.

Debbie Dunn stepped up to take a leading role in creating the databases and processes that make this work. Debbie volunteered to work with the County to build processes to transfer records to a new database she created to support our ability to manage the day-to-day operations of the Sanitary District (as required by our management agreement with the County).  In 2019, she helped create and publish our post-Sanitary District Community Directory. She continues to update the copy posted on our website, so all of the 150+ owners in GHCP (who did not opt out) since then are included.  She is still updating and maintaining those databases today.  Her work enables our communications processes, tracks growth in the community, enables the pool check-in procedure, turns off lost or stolen access cards, enables new cards, manages the trailer parking rental spaces, and much more. She also has gone to the County offices to personally print the vast majority of the over 4200 access cards that have been distributed since 2016. She is an active member of the community craft group and has a reputation as a superb pickleball player. Always quick with a smile and a kind word, Debbie has been a friend to us all.

So, with our sincere appreciation, Debbie Dunn has certainly earned and is hereby awarded the GH-CP Tip of the Hat award for her continuing role in helping keep Glebe Harbor-Cabin Point a “Great Place to Live.”  Thank you, Debbie!
