It’s time for the Authors, Artists, and Artisans’ Series again!
For those of you not familiar with the AAA Series, it is a monthly event featuring talented residents from our community who are authors, artists, or artisans. The event is very informal; Dot Spencer introduces the guest and asks a few questions and then the audience participates with questions of their own. Last year’s series featured fiction and nonfiction authors, woodworkers, oil painters, weavers, and even two actors! The event is usually held in the Clubhouse on a Sunday afternoon, and drinks and a few appetizers are served.
This year we have two additional categories –Athletes and Adventurers! We have (former) pro athletes living in the community, as well as Olympic participants and those specializing in certain sporting events (Ironman Triathlons, for example). Come hear about a day in their lives – training, competing, winning, and life on the road. The other group of residents we will hear from are our Adventurers – those who have lived in a foreign country and will share first-hand knowledge of the culture and daily life.
We will kick off our new season on Sunday, September 29th with our first Adventurer. Lisa Shannon lived in Turkey for 15 years, where she taught at several private schools before retiring on the Aegean coast. She will share some of her experiences and adventures across an ancient land that has been home to a multitude of civilizations for at least 12,000 years but has only been a nation for 101. It is a surprising blend of traditional and modern, geographically and culturally diverse, and often misunderstood. Please come meet Lisa and hear about her experiences.
